Two pictures of the sweet potato........The top picture shows a view from above with top sedge of A'alii being a cover for the sweet potato that is growing underneath while the bottom picture is a side view
Now some of you may wonder whats up with cultivating this sweet potato.
Well if you knew Kanaio and its remote and adverse environment then you would understand the value of food being grown there. With this planting we hoping to see a harvest of 3 to 4 months.
Whats great about growing anything in Kanaio is the southern exposure, what is challenging is the wind , the lack of rainfall and the free roaming cattle.
We love being there though with all that it has to offer.
Its a highly charged environment, having a meditative medicinal quality about it, that brings us back again and again sunset after beautiful sunset......
Some very beautiful under story also grow here in Kanaio with lichens and ferns among the moss covered lavas
